Ambot tik Curry (Fish curry)

- 1 kg Fish
- 10 Red chillies
- 1 large Onion
- 1 large Tomato
- 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 6 Black peppercorns
- 4 Cloves

- 1 small stick Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 10 Garlic cloves
- 4 Kokum
- 1 teaspoon Tamarind paste
- 1/2 cup Water
- Salt (As per taste)

Method |
Finely chop the onion and tomato. Dissolve the turmeric powder in 1/2 cup water. Grind the chillies, coriander, cumin seeds, pepper, cloves, cinnamon and garlic to a fine paste. Sprinkle salt on the fish and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan and fry the onions till they are transparent. Add the chopped tomatoes and fry till they are pulpy. Add the ground masala and turmeric paste. Saute for a few minutes. Add 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Just when the water starts boiling add the fish. Cook for ten minutes and add the tamarind water and kokums.
Simmer till the fish is thoroughly cooked and then add sugar. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Serve hot with steamed rice.
