 Rui Macher Kalia (Fish curry) 
  • 1/2 kg Fish
  • 6 Potatoes
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 100 grams
  • 4 Onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger
  • 1-2 Red chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons Mustard oil
  • Salt (As per taste)
Grind the ginger, red chillies and onions to a fine paste. Fry the fish and keep aside. Chop the potatoes into two and fry the potato halves.

Heat oil in a deep bottomed pan, add the ground paste and fry well. Add 1 cup boiling water to this fried masala. Add the potatoes. Simmer till the potatoes are cooked. Add the fish, salt and sugar and cook till done.

In another small pan, heat oil. Add the bay leaf and the garam masala powder. When the bay leaf changes color pour this seasoning over the fish. Serve with steamed rice.
