 Khatti Arhar (Tangy tuvar dal) 
  • 115 grams Toovar dal
  • 2-3 tablespoons Tamarind water
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 1/2 litres Water
  • 1 Red chilli
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander leaves
Wash the dal well, add salt, turmeric powder and cook in boiling water till tender. Add more water if required. Add tamarind juice, mix well and keep aside. The consistency should not be very thick. Pour out on a serving dish.

Heat ghee, add the asafoetida, cumin seeds, red chillies(deseeded and broken into half). When done, pour on top of the dal. Garnish with coriander leaves.
