 Thengai Chutney (Coconut Chutney) 
  • 6 tablespoons Grated coconut
  • 4 tablespoons Bengal gram dal
  • 6 Green chillies
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves
  • 1/2 inch Chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Urad dal
  • 1 Red chilli
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida powder
  • 2 teaspoons Oil
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Salt(As per taste)
Saute the chana dal till light brown. Grind the coconut, fried chana dal, green chillies, coriander leaves, shredded ginger, tamarind and salt to a fine paste with sufficient water.

Heat 2 teaspoons oil and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, red chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida. When the mustard seeds start spluttering, pour over the ground chutney and mix well.

Serve with dosais, idlis and vadais.
