Poritha Rasam (Spicy Lentil Rasam)

Ingredients |
- 1/2 cup Toovar dal
- 1/4 cup Green moong dal
- 1 Tomato
- 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
- 1 pinch Turmeric powder
- 1 bunch Chopped coriander leaves
- 2 cups Water
- 2 teaspoons Oil
- 1 tablespoon Coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon Peppercorns

- 2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
- 2 Red chillies
- 2 teaspoons Urad dal
- 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida
- 3 tablespoons Grated coconut
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- Few Curry leaves
- Salt(As per taste)

Method |
Pressure cook the dals and set aside.
Heat 2 tsp of oil and fry the coriander seeds, 1 tsp. cumin seeds, peppercorns, 1 red chilli, urad dal and asafoetida. Add the grated coconut and grind to a fine paste using very little water.
Heat the ghee in a pan and add the mustard seeds, remaining cumin seeds and red chilli, curry leaves and let the mustard seeds splutter. Add the cooked dals, chopped tomato, turmeric powder, water, and salt. Simmer for a few minutes. Add the ground paste and simmer again for five minutes till well blended. Add the lemon juice.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
