 Payatham Paruppu Masial (Mashed Green Dal) 
  • 1 cup Green moong dal
  • 6 Green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons Tamarind pulp
  • 1/2 cup Chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 teaspoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 Red chilli
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Salt(As per taste)
Pressure cook the dal, slightly mash and set aside. Mix the tamarind paste in 1 cup of water.

Heat 2 tablespoons ghee, add add mustard seeds, red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves. When the mustard seeds start spluttering, add slit green chillies, tamarind water, turmeric powder and salt. Simmer till the raw smell of the tamarind disappears. Add the cooked dal. Simmer till well blended.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
