 Chakra Pongal (Sweetened Rice) 
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup Green moong dal (split)
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 1/2 cups Water
  • 3 cups Grated jaggery
  • 4 tablespoons Ghee
  • 2 tablespoons Cashew nuts
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins
  • 1 teaspoon Cardamom powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Clove powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg powder
  • 1 pinch Saffron
Dry roast the dal for a 5-6 minutes. Pressure cook the rice and roasted dal with 2 1/2 cups of water and 1 cup milk without putting on the whistle. Set aside when cooked.

Cook the jaggery with 3/4 cup water on a low heat till the jaggery melts. Strain. Discard scum. Heat the jaggery again on low heat and stir till it becomes slightly sticky. Add the cooked rice and dal into the jaggery syrup and cook for a few minutes stirring constantly.

Heat the ghee and fry the cashewnuts and raisins. Add it into the rice-dal-jaggery mixture. Add all the spice powders and stir well.

Serve hot.
