Chana Dali (Bengal Gram Dal)

Ingredients |
- 2 cups Bengal gram dal
- 1/4 cup Grated coconut
- 2 small sticks Cinnamon
- 4 Cardamoms (black)
- 4 Cloves
- 1 teaspoon Pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds

- 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Panch phoran
- 1 tablespoon Ghee
- Salt (As per taste)

Method |
Wash and boil the dal with salt, turmeric and sugar till it is completely cooked. Grind the coconut, cardamoms, cloves, cumin seeds, coriander seeds to a fine powder. Add this powder into the dal with very little water and pepper powder. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
In a small pan, heat 1 tbsp ghee and add the panch phutana. Fry till the seeds start crackling and then pour into the dal. Simmer for 1-2 minutes.
Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or rotis.
