Coconut Fish

Ingredients |
- 1 medium Pomfret
- 3/4 cup Thick coconut milk
- 3/4 cup Thin coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon Tamarind pulp
- 8 Peppercorns

- 3 tablespoons Oil
- 3 tablespoons Grated coconut
- 2 medium Onions
- Red chilli powder
- Salt (As per taste)

Method |
Clean one medium promfret, or any other white fish, Extract 3/4 cup thick milk from half a large coconut, 3/4 cup thin milk. and 1 tablespoon tamarind pulp extracted from 5 to 7 grams tamarind.
Grind grated coconut, 1 onion, tamarind pulp and peppercorns. Dice the second onion. Fillet fish and cut into 7 1/2 cm (3") wide pieces. Clean and dust with 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder and 1 teaspoon salt.
Heat oil. Fry finely chopped onion to golden colour. Add coconut-onion paste, salt and red chilli powder. Fry with a sprinkling of water for 4 to 5 minutes. Now add thin coconut milk and fish pieces. Simmer uncovered until the fish is tender. Mix in thick milk and simmer for about couple of minutes or to creamy consistency. Remove from heat.
Serve with plain boiled rice.
