Malabar Chemmeen Curry (Malabar Prawn Curry)

Ingredients |
- 20 medium Prawns
- 1/2 cup Tamarind pulp
- 1/2 cup Chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 cup Grated coconut
- 5 Chopped onions
- 6 Garlic
- 4 Red chillies
- 4 Green chillies
- 2 inches Ginger

- 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 cup Coconut oil
- 2 teaspoons Curry leaves
- 6 Chopped cashewnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon Cardamom powder
- Salt (As per taste)

Method |
Soak tamarind in 1 cup of warm water and extract the juice. Wash, shell and de-vein the prawns. Grind the coriander leaves, grated coconut, chopped onions, garlic, red chillies, green chillies, ginger, pepper, cumin to a fine paste. Apply the paste to the prawns and allow to marinate for 2 hours.
Heat oil and fry the prawns till golden and drain well. Mix tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt in a vessel. Add the fried prawns and boil for five minutes. Remove it from fire and transfer the contents to a serving dish. Garnish it with fried curry leaves and the nuts. Sprinkle cardamom powder on them.
Serve with hot rice.
