The Abode of Lord Venkateswara
Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, commonly known as Tirupati Balaji, is the most visited place of worship in the world. Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu, the temple receives 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims daily, with numbers swelling to several hundred thousand during festivals.
The temple is located on the seventh peak (Venkatadri) of the Tirumala Hills, part of the Seshachalam Range. According to tradition, Lord Venkateswara took a massive loan from Kubera (the god of wealth) for his wedding to Padmavati, and devotees believe their offerings help repay this cosmic debt.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) manages the temple, which has assets worth billions of dollars making it the richest religious institution in the world. The temple feeds over 100,000 pilgrims daily through its free meals program.
